Background of the Study
Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is a management strategy that involves the radical redesign of business processes to achieve significant improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction (Hammer & Champy, 2023). In the logistics industry, where operational efficiency is critical to profitability, BPR has become an essential tool for companies seeking to streamline their operations, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery (Ogunleye & Okoro, 2024). In Taraba State, logistics companies face unique challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, logistical bottlenecks, and regulatory hurdles, which hinder their ability to achieve optimal efficiency (Dangana & Ahmed, 2025).
Logistics companies in Taraba State are increasingly turning to BPR as a solution to address inefficiencies in their operations. By reengineering processes, companies can eliminate redundant tasks, automate operations, and improve coordination across different parts of the supply chain. This study will critically analyze how logistics companies in Taraba State implement BPR and assess its impact on operational efficiency. Additionally, it will explore the challenges these companies face when adopting BPR strategies and the overall effectiveness of these initiatives in improving business performance.
Statement of the Problem
Logistics companies in Taraba State are under pressure to enhance their operational efficiency in order to stay competitive. However, many of these companies are yet to fully implement BPR strategies, or their efforts to do so have not resulted in the desired improvements in efficiency (Kalla & Bawa, 2023). Despite the potential benefits of BPR, the lack of clear frameworks for its implementation, resistance to change, and resource constraints present significant obstacles. This study aims to investigate how logistics companies in Taraba State are using BPR to improve operational efficiency and identify the barriers to its successful adoption.
Objectives of the Study
1. To explore the BPR strategies employed by logistics companies in Taraba State to improve operational efficiency.
2. To assess the impact of BPR on operational performance and cost reduction in logistics companies in Taraba State.
3. To identify the challenges faced by logistics companies in Taraba State when implementing BPR strategies.
Research Questions
1. What BPR strategies are logistics companies in Taraba State using to improve operational efficiency?
2. How does BPR affect the operational performance of logistics companies in Taraba State?
3. What are the challenges faced by logistics companies in Taraba State in implementing BPR?
Research Hypotheses
1. H₁: There is a significant positive relationship between the implementation of BPR strategies and operational efficiency in logistics companies in Taraba State.
2. H₂: Logistics companies in Taraba State that implement BPR will experience cost reductions in their operations.
3. H₃: Resistance to change and resource constraints are significant challenges to the implementation of BPR in logistics companies in Taraba State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on logistics companies operating in Taraba State, specifically those that have implemented or are in the process of implementing BPR strategies. The research will rely on interviews with management and staff, as well as operational data from the companies. Limitations include the difficulty of obtaining sensitive company data and potential biases in responses from company personnel.
